Remarkably, plants can measure day length because of specialized pigment molecules that switch seasonal processes on and off. The shortening of nights in spring signals trees to sprout leaves and wildflowers to bloom. The lengthening of nights in August triggers late bloomers to flower.
Forest Negotiations are Underway!
Friends attended the April 10 Madison Borough Council meeting to receive the Mayor’s Earth Day proclamation and were thrilled to hear that negotiations are in full swing between the Borough and the University. In his statement, Mayor Conley said:
“I can’t think of a better way to invest in our planet than working with Drew to preserve the forest.”
Mayor Robert Conley invited Friends of the Drew Forest to receive his annual proclamation recognizing April 22 2023 as Earth Day.
BREAKING NEWS: Rep. Mikie Sherrill to seek $5m for Drew Forest preservation
We’re thrilled that Congresswoman Sherrill recognizes the regional impact of the forest and is seeking federal funding to assist the Borough of Madison in purchasing and preserving the forest, should negotiations with Drew prove successful.
Paint the Town Blue for Spring!
Drew Trustees come to town in mid-May for graduation, and the alumni come for reunions in early June. Let’s show them how much we value the Drew Forest!
