Through the Woods: Updates & Thanks
Year-end reflections and a huge, open-hearted thanks
Like most land conservation efforts, saving the Drew Forest requires time, dedication and relentless outreach. It is nothing short of a small miracle that, over the last 2.5 years, we found the right volunteers to help establish a nonprofit, file an amicus brief in court, run a website, manage social media, write this newsletter AND…
commission studies by NJ’s leading environmental experts to support the legal case for conservation of the Forest.
hire a lawyer to replace the legendary Ed Lloyd who passed this August.
comment at nearly every council meeting since May 2021.
table at countless farmer’s markets and events across Morris County.
secure the support of 7 town councils, 4 environmental commissions and dozens of state, local and national environmental groups on our regional support page.
What does the future hold? All we know for sure is that saving the Drew Forest requires large quantities of fortitude and an aptitude for surprises. We hope we can count on your year-end donation and continued support.
THANK YOU!
IN THE NEWS
About that $5 million dollars…
Madison Eagle Morris County approved $5 million “rather than the full $10 million, in part because there is no purchase agreement in place for Drew University to sell the 53-acre forest land to Madison.”
Daily Record “Our approval tonight of a $5 million Open Space grant for Drew Forest is the first and only significant commitment by anyone to preserve this property."
Morristown Green The crusade will continue, asserted [Judy] Kroll, co-chair of the Friends, calling her group “tenacious as hell. We’re the Energizer bunnies of the Drew Forest. We know conservation takes a long time. We knew it going in. Our supporters know it.”
Sing along: our best wishes for a very happy Forest holiday.
Here’s a YouTube link to the song we sang at the Town Council yesterday. Our lyricist is Christine Hepburn; Kathi Caccavale is on recorder and, on guitar, is composer and Drew grad, David Thomson.
