Starting The New Year Off Right -- The Forests Need Your Help!

2022 Borough of Madison Annual Message from Mayor Robert H. Conley

The Mayor’s New Year address calls for supporting Drew University and its forest, which, “helps recharge our aquifer, clean our air, and provides a refuge not only for wildlife but also for us as we look to escape the crazy world around us.”

Volunteers Needed!

The Friends of the Drew Forest will be tabling at the Winter Market presented by Grow it Green Morristown. We need 6 volunteers for short, 1 to 1.5 hour shifts starting this Sunday, January 23. Volunteers will help to greet shoppers, share flyers, collect petition signatures, and SPREAD THE WORD!

Email Judy Kroll at judykroll@aol.com with any questions.

Protect Our Public Forests

The New Jersey Highlands Coalition is hosting the first New Jersey Forests Forum. Senator Bob Smith, who is leading development on legislation on public forests, will introduce the Forum. Please register for this important New Jersey Forum to learn about land conservation in New Jersey and show your support for future legislation protecting our forests.

Attending is an easy, effortless way to show NJ legislators you care about New Jersey’s forests. No emails. No phone calls. No travel.

High registration—and high attendance—sends a signal to elected officials that the public is interested and watching. So register even if you can’t attend. Join for a half hour if that’s all the time you have. The speakers are stellar and they include Dr. Sara Webb, Professor Emerita Biology & Environmental Studies, Drew University

A good turnout will help show it’s time to:

  • Stop cutting old trees to make room for “young forests”

  • Recognize that forests thrive when ecosystems are intact

  • Understand that old trees sequester far more carbon than young trees; they are frontline fighters against climate change

Friends of the Drew Forest

The Friends of the Drew Forest is a volunteer organization dedicated to protect and sustain the Drew Forest Preserve, 53 biodiverse acres that provide countless benefits to Drew University, Madison Borough and surrounding communities along with critical wildlife habit.
